PAUL'S FALL: WHATEVER PAUL MULLET IS DOING, IT ISN'T WORKING ANYMORE

Paul MulletPaul Mullet. What a guy. One would think that we created him to have something to do when all the other neo-Nazis were laying low, but no he’s real and he is seriously being regulated to the role of comedy relief to be honest. You can’t take anyone seriously if they do the things he does, especially if it involves registered sex offenders. Especially if you a white power group that has hip hop producers among the staff! And ESPECIALLY if you let some prankster on the internet get the drop on you. No, we won’t take him too seriously, but we love it when the Nazis do!

One People’s Project

In late January, several neo-Nazis joined a Facebook group called Pacific Atlantic National Socialist Youth. It seemed tame enough, at least tame by neo-Nazi standards. “We vow to put aside all regional differences in the pursuit of uniting the American white race against all mongrels and against an increasingly communistic goverment,” the group’s mission statement read. “We are about unity, honor and pride.” They were still signing up, and not even the one who noticed it didn’t think much of the fact that the acronym for the group spelled PANSY. It was a prank courtesy of an anti-fascist activist known on the internet as SamDamnit.

The funniest thing about this prank is that one of the people who signed on to the PANSY division was Paul Mullet, who until late last year was running what the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) said was the most active and best organized of all of the groups claiming to carry on the name and mission of Aryan Nations in 2010. It is simply the latest in a string of embarrasing moves over the past few months for the recently ousted leader, and it doesn’t seem to be letting up anytime soon.

Since Aryan Nation founder Dick Butler died in 2004, a number of organizations have made attempts to operate under the Aryan Nations banner, each claiming to be the true heir to its name. In 2010, there were at least four different Aryan Nation groups in the United States, including Mullet’s which was founded in 2009. Based in Chillicothe, Ohio Mullet’s Aryan Nations had 14 chapters, which was augmented last year when Gordon Young disbanded his World Knights of the Ku Klux Klan and incorporated into Mullet’s group. They spent the past year distributing flyers on lawns in West Virginia, California and Idaho, and according to the SPLC, Idaho’s literature drop was with the flyers inside plastic eggs on Easter morning. There were also two rallies, a June rally at Gettysburg National Military Park in Pennsylvania, where Young rallied in September 2006, one in July in Pulaski, TN, regarded as the birthplace of the Ku Klux Klan, and another in Bethany Beach, DE. There were some low points as well, such as when they attempted to relocate the Aryan Nations headquarters to John Day, Oregon but was opposed by the local government, businesses and residents, but after that, Mullet simply started to raise money to buy 15 acres of land in southern Tennessee which he hoped would be “a new Aryan Republic Homeland”.

Then everything went in the opposite direction. By year’s end, Mullet was out of Aryan Nations and his faction was taken over by ex-con and longtime Aryan Nations member Morris Gulett, fresh out of prison after serving time for burgulary and on parole for the next ten years. There wasn’t much fanfare when it happened, but the scuttlebut became that he was ousted after he was caught stealing, cheating and lying to the membership of Aryan Nations. Not long after, Mullet resurfaced as the leader (he prefers to say “Reichsführer”) of the American National Socialist Party (ANSP), which curiously enough, is based in Chillicothe, Ohio, just like Aryan Nations was.

The problems with this new group started immediately. In September 2010 Chris Hogan of Heber Springs, Arkansas joined Mullet’s Aryan Nations, but has since went on to serve as the ANSP’s Regional Coordinator for the Southeast. On Nov. 16, Hogan started AryansBook, which as one can tell from the name is an attempt at a whites-only clone of Facebook. But in December, the SPLC reported on his other venture – that of hip hop producer. Hogan is Chairman and CEO of Crunkland Records which happens to have the same PO Box as AryansBook. On his MySpace page, Hogan lists his favorite music as “Hip Hop, Rap, Rock, NO F-ING KUNTRY!” his heroes as “Rissel (sic) Simmons” and P. Diddy, and among his favorite movies “Bad Boys,” the 1995 action film starring Will Smith and Martin Lawrence. He has been called out as a scam artist however, and according to the SPLC had to pay dearly for it:

“Hogan ran into trouble with Missouri and Arkansas financial regulators for dealing in unregistered securities in a scheme that promised speculators no-risk returns of up to 2% per day for investing in “the thriving and exciting Entertainment industry” and a planned Dominican Republic casino resort project. In September 2006, the Missouri secretary of state issued a cease-and-desist order to Hogan and several of his corporate entities, including Crunkland, Crunkvest Ltd. and ROLFund.com, for promoting the unregistered “high yield loan program.” Arkansas’ securities commissioner won a permanent injuction and civil and ancillary penalties against Hogan for the same scheme two years later. Hogan on his AryansBook page mocked these penalties, saying “the [sic] shook their finger at me and said dont [sic] do that again … LOL,” but Arkansas ordered him to pay $221,361 in penalties and compensation to investors.”

None of this seems to be a problem for the person who posts as “Anchorage Activist” on the White Reference website, long believed to be David Pringle, former head of the National Alliance. “Interesting implications here,” he wrote. “Is Hogan considering the possibility of marketing pro-White rap? If so, this means Hogan might be considering taking a potent weapon that Jewish entertainment moguls use against White youth and turning it on its own head. Instead of bitching about rap, Hogan might be considering soliciting and marketing pro-White rap to further radicalize White youth who have already been alienated by exposure to compulsory diversity. This tactic has potential even if most of us hate the rap genre.”

Gary GodseyBut then came something even more problematic. In January, Mullet announced a Chief of Staff named Gary Godsey out of North Carolina who was going to oversee operations out of the Southeast US. If Mullet thought things were going to start looking up again he was mistaken, because the outcry came just as quickly as his announcement. It turns out Godsey was convicted in 2002 of the second-degree rape of a 16-year-old. Released from prison last March, he joined Aryan Nations in August, but was ousted when members learned of his sex offender status. “Gary was accepted into membership of the Aryan Nations by our former National Director Paul Mullet who was removed from the ranks of Aryan Nations himself for lying. and stealing from Aryan Nations,” Morris Gullett recently wrote in a communicade to Aryan Nation members that included links to Godsesy’s sex offender registry status. The ANSP site
no longer lists Godsey as a contact.

Whatever organizing successes Mullet had in 2010, that may not be repeated in the year to come. Still, success is relative when you are dealing with Mullet, and how he approaches things as they come remains to be seen.
