We were joking about how we haven’t dealt with the band Major Disappointment (Pictured from left to right is Dave Southwick, Dan Carlson, both former National Socialist Movement, unknown and Colin Therrian) since our MySpace days, but it seems they are still trying to gain a foothold in the mainstream. Apparently we have a venue that may allow them to do that this weekend, so we are going through the same games venues like to play where they will give Nazis a forum feigning ignorance to what they are about. Sometimes they don’t and we can’t fault them for that, but this time the venue Morelands Motorcross Park in Stanton, MI, and they have been informed about who Major Disappointment is. And there’s more. When we checked in with them last they were trying to keep their politics on the DL. Now they are working with white power distros and fanzines. So there isn’t any question where their positions were, but then again, given their guitarist is also the bassist for an established white power group and is also a former member of the National Socialist Movement, there never was. This link comes with an email to contact Grant Moreland to let him know that you are concerned about his decision to keep him on the bill for the show this weekend. UPDATE: MORELANDS HAS REMOVED MAJOR DISAPPOINTMENT FROM THE BILL…OR SO THEY SAY. WE HAVE HEARD THAT BEFORE, AND GRANT MORELAND IS HIGHLY PISSED THAT THIS EVEN BECAME AN ISSUE. THE LAST TIME FOLKS WERE TOLD A NAZI BAND WAS PULLED OFFA BILL BY A VENUE HOSTILE TO THE OUTRAGE, THE BAND ACTUALLY STILL PLAYED! SO TAKE MORELANDS CANCELATION ANNOUNCEMENT WITH A GRAIN OF SALT UNLESS THERE IS A PUBLIC STATEMENT FROM MORELANDS ITSELF!
One People’s Project
STANTON, MI-A neo-Nazi-affiliated band who’s guitarist is a former member of the National Socialist Movement and also of the neo-Nazi band Total War is generating controversy for a music event at a local bike park they may perform at this weekend.
Detroit Anti-Racist Action (ARA) is calling attention to the band Major Disappointment possibly performing at what is being called a “Headbanger’s Ball” at Morelands Motorcross Park. The guitarist for the band and Total War’s bassist Dan Carlson once viewed this as his mainstream outlet that departs from his Nazi affiliations, but last month the band released a DVD via the Maryland white power distro Label 56, which is run by Jason Tankserley of the Maryland “Skinheads”.
Major Disappointment has been removed from several events in the past after the community expressed their concerns. Many of the venues where Major Disappointment performed were unaware of the neo-Nazi affiliations, but despite being informed by ARA, Grant Moreland has decided to keep the band on the bill. “We have been approached by the band, Major Affiliation (sic), to perform, free of charge, at an event that features hard rock and heavy metal music,” Moreland wrote in an email, incorrectly stating the band’s name. “We accept band performances on a non-biased level while reserving the right to deny any performances as we feel fit and when we feel fit. Major Affiliation has never performed at any of our music events in the past, so we will not deny their entry based on previous performances that are not affilited with our venue.”
None of the band performing at the Headbanger’s Ball are listed either on the Moreland’s Facebook page or website for the Headbanger’s Ball.
The original emailed response from Grant Moreland
Detroit Anti-Racist Action,
Morelands is not in business to, nor does it promote racist ideology. We have been approached by the band, Major Affiliation, to perform, free of charge, at an event that features hard rock and heavy metal music. We accept band performances on a non-biased level while reserving the right to deny any performances as we feel fit and when we feel fit. Major Affiliation has never performed at any of our music events in the past, so we will not deny their entry based on previous performances that are not affilited with our venue.
With that being said, we will not deny entry to those who wish to listen or to protest to such music. Entry to the performance will be $10 per person, regardless of the reason they are entering.
I appreciate your concern.
