Oregon Live

A months-long drug and weapons investigation into the base of three white supremacist gangs came to a head early Wednesday, when a police raid in Northeast Portland led to eight arrests.

Multnomah County Sheriff’s Special Investigations Unit executed a search warrant on two units of a triplex in the 10900-block of East Burnside Road with help from the Portland Police Bureau’s Special Emergency Reaction Team and Washington County’s Tactical Negotiations Team.

Officers used flash bang devices and tear gas in the raid that began at 3 a.m., said Lt. Steve Alexander, a Multnomah County sheriff’s spokesperson.

During the searches, investigators found and seized six firearms, including three semi-automatics and two revolvers, and a rifle, along with drug paraphernalia that includes scales and packaging materials, drug records and approximately 1.5 ounces of methamphetamine packaged for street sales.

Officers booked the following suspects into the Multnomah County Detention Center:

35-year-old Joshua Ryan Sparks, arrested on federal warrant for a parole violation and as a felon in possession of firearm;

42-year old Anthony Staggs, arrested on a probation violation, and as a felon in possession of a firearm;

48-year-old Kenneth Wellman Jr., arrested on a probation violation;

45-year-old James Dean Phillips, arrested on probation violation;

34-year-old Jesse Jerome Phillips, arrested on a parole violation;

32-year-old Sarah Dunn, arrested on an outstanding warrant for possession of methamphetamine;

22-year-old Danielle Palen, arrested on an outstanding warrant for second-degree theft;

43-year-old Jamie Coleman, arrested for felony failure to register as a sex offender.

Two other females were interviewed at the scene and released, including one who was transported to the hospital for evaluation of a minor eye irritation.

The two raided units were identified as a central location and gathering place for known white supremacist gang members from European Kindred, Brood and FBK.
