HUNGARY – A white supremacist conference sponsored by the Montana-based National Policy Institute (NPI), is being shut down, and its attendees are being detained, according to tweets from a Buzzfeed reporter.

“At least 15 Hungarian cops have come to raid the banned white nationalist get-together organized by @Richardbspencer,” Max Seddon tweeted about the “European Congress”, saying further that NPI Executive Director Richard Spencer was talking about Hungarian media. Minutes later, Seddon tweeted, “Police rounding up a few white nationalists. Fringe far-right conference fast becoming a Hungarian free speech issue.”

The conference had been scheduled to take place Oct. 3-5, but a week before it was supposed to begin, Hungarian officials banned the conference and threatened to arrest anyone organizing or attending the event. One organizer had reportedly been detained before being sent back to America, Earlier today however, it was reported by the white supremacist website VDARE that Spencer spent the day giving interviews to Hungarian news outlets. “Despite the supposed ban, NPI’s lead organizer Richard Spencer has been able to move about the city without too much trouble,” the article read.

According to HungarianAmbiance.com, Spencer had adjusted to the situation, making the conference a private affair with no media allowed. He also did not disclose the location of the conference, which was expected to draw 75-100 attendees, down from the 250-300 originally planned. Spencer said he entered Hungary by train from Vienna, Austria.
