Our work never seems to end in DC, but this sounds like the WPs are trying to pick a fight. A few weeks ago the Black is Back Coalition for Social Justice, Peace and Reparations formed and announced a march and rally to be held on Nov. 7 – this Saturday. A few weeks after that, white supremacist radio show host Michael Collins Piper announces that Willis Carto’s American Free Press will be holding their conference that same afternoon, and their keynote speaker will be White Supremacy’s Biggest Pariah, David Duke (pictured)! At press time, the conference is going to be held at the Capitol Skyline Hotel, just behind the US Capitol while the Black is Back Rally will be held just down the road at the White House. We will be down there and will keep you posted on developments as they go along, but if you don’t think this isn’t going to be a rather interesting weekend, you are damn sure not paying attention!
One People’s Project
WASHINGTON, DC-While a major march and rally of African Americans and supporters will be taking place at the White House on Saturday, further up the road in a hotel just behind the U.S. Capitol, politically-connected white supremacists will be participating in a conference where the keynote speaker will be former Ku Klux Klan Grand Wizard David Duke.
The American Free Press, an anti-Semitic publication published by veteran hate activist Willis Carto, will be holding the conference from 2 to 6 PM at the Capitol Skyline Hotel on 10 I St. SW. The newspaper has not publicly announced the conference, and it is only open to its subscribers. However, one of its scheduled speakers, white supremacist internet radio host Michael Collins Piper first announced the conference, then the white supremacist website Stormfront started promoting the event a few weeks ago. Duke made his own announcement this week. As often is the protocol for white supremacist conferences, neither Duke or Stormfront postings noted where exactly the conference was going to be held, but another scheduled speaker Texe Marrs prominently announced its location on his website.
The announcement of the conference came a few weeks after a coalition of Black activists institutions and communities called the Black is Back March and Rally for the same day. The Black is Back Coalition for Social Justice, Peace and Reparations formed on September 12, 2009 in Washington, DC, which was not only when the National Black Family Reunion was held on the National Mall, but more famously the same day 70,000 conservatives, mostly white, participated in a massive tea party protest promoted heavily by right-wing talk show hosts and the Fox News Channel. The march was called to address a number of concerns affecting the black community, ranging from police brutality, to the war, to lingering concerns about Hurricane Katrina victims. Speakers during the rally include former Rep. Cynthia McKinney, members of the hi-hop duo Ded Prez and anti-war activist Cindy Sheehan,
“Many of the leading concerns of Black people, Latinos and working people in this country remain insufficiently addressed,” the official call states. “Black and Brown people continue to suffer the brunt of un/under-employment and predatory loan scandal crises. Military spending under Obama has increased as have the warfare this nation continues to export to Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Venezuela and Colombia. Mass incarceration, police brutality and political imprisonment remain rampant and the most negatively impacted by the levee breech in post-Katrina New Orleans continue to be without homes, jobs or health care assistance. And to that point, these are precisely the communities who nationally will be the most negatively effected by yet another myth of health care ‘reform.'”
With the march starting at Meridian Hill/Malcolm X Park and ending with a rally across the street from the White House, participants in either events might not cross paths while those events are taking place, but it is likely that some may do so independently. The American Free Press Conference is the first of three significant events for white supremacists that will take place in the Washington DC area. On Nov. 9, UK Holocaust denier and Hitler apologist David Irving will be giving a lecture in Washington, and on Feb. 19-21, the white supremacist newsletter American Renaissance will be hosting their biannual conference at the Dulles Airport Mariott
To date, there has not been any comment either from American Free Press or the Black is Back Coalition regarding the day’s two events.
