We found out something interesting today. There was some talk about the Dulles Airport Marriott told Jared Taylor he can’t have his little American Renaissance Conference at their hotel in February. Seems a few people were none too pleased that a white power conference was going to held at such an establishment, so they had to find new digs. Or so we thought. Well, after a quick phone call to confirm, we found out that the conference is still happening at the Dulles Airport Marriott – under the name “New Century Foundation”, the organization Jared Taylor runs. Now we were going to wrtie something up this week anyway because of the other little attraction happening the same weekend – CPAC! With all the hate mongering going on at both conferences, you can expect people from either of them going back and forth, and that’s not going down without someone saying something about it. We don’t have any confirmed plans as of yet, but we know there are people who want to make moves against this nastiness going on that weekend. Meanwhile, you can expect the Marriott getting an earful since it is two of their hotels that are the venues of choice for these conferences. And while we are at it, we also note another event at the Capitol Skyline Hotel on Feb. 13, kind of a precursor to all of the following week’s madness.
One People’s Project
WASHINGTON, DC-American Renaissance (AmRen), the white supremacist newsletter edited by Jared Taylor, is still going forward with plans to have their conference at the Dulles Airport Marriott on Feb 19-21, despite announcements from activists opposed to the conference that the hotel was not allowing the conference to take place there. In addition, the conference will be taking place the same weekend that the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), which is being co-sponsored this year, by the paleoconservative John Birch Society will be held at another Marriott just a 40-minute drive away in the Woodley Park neighborhood.
According to a number of internet postings, the Marriott was contacted by a number of persons about the AmRen conference, and had reversed its decision to allow it to go forward. “American Renaissance has canceled its February 19-21 conference reservations at the Washington Dulles Marriott Hotel and is looking for a new location for the groups’ meeting,” a post on the Responsible for Equality And Liberty (R.E.A.L.) website wrote.
At the time, the R.E.A.L. website also noted that the AmRen website was still announcing the conference at the Marriott. Today however, the site makes no mention of the hotel in its announcement, but it is noted that there is a “special ‘New Century Foundation’ room rate” for the attendees. It was later learned that the only change that had ever been made was removing the name of American Renaissance on the reservation at the hotel, and replacing it with the name of Taylor’s organization, the New Century Foundation.
The more mainstream CPAC conference will be starting a day earlier on Feb. 18 at the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel. This conference annually brings out a virtual who’s who on the right, but many of CPAC’s attendees, such as Frontpagemag’s David Horowitz and VDARE’s Peter Brimelow, have associated themselves with Taylor and in many cases the white supremacist Council of Conservative Citizens, a group of which Taylor is a member that has not been allowed at CPAC for over a decade.
Still, the paleoconservative group Youth for Western Civilization held its inaugural event at last year’s CPAC. YWC associate Marcus Epstein, who along with Brimelow was at the inaugural, is a contemporary of Jared Taylor’s. The anti-Muslim Dutch politician Geert Wilders, who has enjoyed massive support in American Renaissance, also spoke at last year’s CPAC.
This year, the John Birch Society has been announced as a co-sponsor of CPAC this year, and that alone has prompted a number of circles to voice concern over the climate the right is now trying to create.
These are not the only events taking place in February that have raised an eyebrow. A week before both conferences on Feb. 13, Mark Anderson, a writer for the anti-Semitic American Free Press newspaper that hosted David Duke at an AFP conference on Nov. 7 at the Capitol Skyline hotel, announced a “First Amendment Festival” there with formerly incarcerated Congressman Jim Traficant as his keynote speaker. The event was organized by AFP correspondent Peter Papaheraklis, the Council of Conservative Citizens member that held an event at his Maryland home that was protested by antifa in September.
Specific plans from opposition to these events are not available at this time, but it is known that some groups are keeping an eye out for developments. “Wherever racist “white nationalism” is promoted, you can expect those of us at Responsible for Equality And Liberty (R.E.A.L.) to publicly protest in support of inalienable human rights of equality and liberty,” the group R.E.A.L. noted on their website.
