Another white power show, and another band feels the hate for their plans to play it. The Baltimore boneheads are having another St. Patrick’s Day show (maybe they can get more than 30 this year), and they have some performers that think they can taint themselves with that stink and still play mainstream gigs without someone saying something. Pittsburgh Anti-Racist Action just informed one of the St. Patty’s Day show performers that it not going to happen. Julien Edgar (pictured) says he wasn’t able to perform at a show on Sunday due to a fight with his girlfriend, but folks found that reason rather curious since an ARA crew was giving him quite a few more – namely they didn’t want boneheads playing their town. One would think that the town that has given us Aus Roten and Anti Flag had sent that message loud and clear to the boneheads a long time ago, but alas, it seems every now and then, it needs to be repeated. So kudos to ARA for getting it out again, and we have a feeling there will be more message sending in the months to come.
One People’s Project
PITTSBURGH, PA – The local chapter of Anti-Racist Action (ARA) mobilized against a musical artist scheduled to perform at a local venue when it was learned he was also one of the artists slated to perform at a white power St. Patrick’s Day show on Saturday.
Julien Edgar ultimately canceled his show at Garfield Artworks, telling the promoter that his girlfriend was angry with him and would not give him a ride to the gig. By this time the promoter had been informed that Edgar was going to play the St. Patrick’s Day Acoustic Concert sponsored by Label 56, which is run by Maryland Skinheads (MDS). “…I told him about the controversy (of which he claimed to be totally unaware – he said he received no communication from anyone about it),” he wrote on a Pittsburgh music forum about his call to Edgar. “So at that point we mutually cancelled.”
“A bunch of people (16-20) showed up at the venue to talk to the guy who runs the space to explain the situation to him to send the message that if Julian Edgar is WP/plays the show next week, they’re not welcome in Pittsburgh,” a rep from Pittsburgh ARA said. “I think the message got across.”
While the promoter, who is himself Jewish, used his post to go an a ranting diatribe against ARA for how they approached him, he ultimately believed that Julien Edgar performing that night or any other night might cause issues. “(T)his was my advice to Julian, whom I still think is OK musically even though, yes, he did admit to me ‘yes I’m German and I have some feelings in that direction’ and also that the reason he’s playing the Baltimore fest is because ‘they are paying well’,” the promoter wrote. “First of all, he should change his performance name. Second, he should not play any more shows associated with white power labels, ever again. And if he has opinions about white pride or whatever, he should simply keep them to himself. That way, he can rehabilitiate his musical career and go on with it, instead of living in fear of ARA punks attacking him at every turn. I think the guy’s music is quality enough that he should be willing to make these changes. I told him if he doesn’t make these changes, I can’t help him in Pittsburgh
ever again.”
At this time, neither Julien Edgar nor the other two bands advertised to perform at the St. Patrick’s Day show, the McBastards and Suckered In, have not announced any other shows in the future.
