STEWART: 'SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DOUCHE?'

DoucheOkay, we had the whole beer thing and as we said before, this little Henry Louis Gates episode will be winding down soon. Also, as we had said before, the conservatives and racists that create the crap we fight are making themselves look worse and worse as we go along. So much so, that a few blogs have zeroed in on the sendup Jon Stewart gave the assorted right-wing nutjobs who have tried to make hay of the arrest in order to promote their racist routines. After watching Sean Hannity give Rudolph Giuliani air time on this, we thought we would share this with you as well. The next time we start dealing with another racist incident, we would do well to remember how much this crowd’s wheels fell off the wagon – not to mention what they might be trying to pull with their repeated routines. By the way, Hannity…Rudy Giuliani? Really? Really? After almost ten days of making a big deal of Barack Obama commenting without knowing all the facts, you get the most racist Mayor New York City has had in recent time to come on and say the same thing, even though while he was in office and several questionable incidents concerning the police arose, most of them involving people getting killed, he was known to tell people that even though investigations were underway, the police did the right thing, as he did in the case of an Hasidic Jew that was killed by police? People like Hannity are good for comedians like Stewart, but if they keep this crap up the two-party system is going to consist of Democrats and Greens.

St. Louis Examiner

In the video below (warning graphic language) Jon Stewart does a brilliant segment in which he summarizes the recent surge in misguided statements coming from the mouths of conservative commentators.

Stewart first takes aim at Sean Hannity showing a montage Hannity did of President Obama with menacing the music in the background.  Stewart then plays the same music to a montage of Dora the Explorer.  The comparison does a great job of illustrating how anything can be demonized with the right editing and sound effects.

The next commentator taken on by Stewart is Lou Dobbs who Stewart claims takes a more sophisticated road to ridiculous coverage.  Stewart points out, as I have in previous pieces, how Dobbs attempts to make himself seem neutral by carefully wording his statements to say  “believes Barack Obama is a citizen” without saying Obama was born in the United States or that Obama is qualified to be President.

Finally Stewart ends his segment by crowning the winner of his talking heads competition.  Stewart cuts to Glenn Beck’s claim that President Obama is a racist to show how insane Beck has become in his coverage.  Stewart then shows how Beck manages to contradict himself just 75 seconds after his infamous “deep seated hatred for white people quote.”  I agree with Stewart that while all three men have been ridiculous Beck by far displays the most irrational coverage of them all.

Stewart may be on to something in comparing the three men.  As one commentator makes news with some absurd comment it may only ratchet things up as the other commentators feel pressure to make an even more controversial statement to gain viewership.  If this is true we must ask what is coming next as the talking heads battle it out for ratings.
