DARYLE LAMONT JENKINS AND JOEL OLSEN TO SPEAK AT BRECHT FORUM AS PART OF DAY AGAINST FASCISM JULY 31 at 4 PM

From july31antifa.blogspot.com:

“During the early morning hours of March 27th, a Portland, Oregon anti-racist activist was shot in what appears to be a well orchestrated attack. It is suspected that the attackers were members of the neo- Nazi movement…

The March 27th shooting occurred within a backdrop of growing Right wing, racist, and emerging fascist organizing and activity. There has been a dramatic escalation of rhetoric and action from the broad Right. While all sectors of the working classes and poor face economic and social uncertainty, the racists, the Right wing, and the smaller but significant sections of the neo-Nazi and fascist movements are looking to divide our class and peoples…

We propose Saturday July 31, 2010 as a Call to Action Against Racism and Fascism. We want to use the CA to both engage the broad, independent, and radical anti-racist/anti-fascist movements… we argue for a maximum of creative and independent initiative… to use the CA as a means to increase collaboration between our forces and work in a popular manner to highlight the need for a mass, radical response to racist and fascist organizing.”

Resurgent White Supremacy?

As the Tea Party movement gains legitimacy and racist legislation spreads from Arizona across the U.S, right-wing groups are already maneuvering to gain influence and membership amid a populist groundswell. Are we entering a period of racist violence unseen since that of Reconstruction, or are there forces still capable of overcoming the right and creating a world of equality and freedom? Join two electrifying organizers for a discussion of recent right wing activity and grassroots opposition in Arizona and around the country, as part of the July 31st national Call to Action against Racism and Fascism.

Joel Olson will discuss the grassroots struggle against Arizona’s anti-immigrant law SB 1070, and in particular the work of the Repeal Coalition, of which he is a member. Rather than nativism vs. reform, the Repeal Coalition seeks to create a third pole in the immigration debate, one that argues that all persons in a global economy deserve the right to live, love, and work wherever they please. Olson will discuss Repeal’s strategy to achieve this, as well as argue how this law reflects current struggles over the nature of white identity in the 21st century.

Daryle Lamont Jenkins, an organizer with the One People’s Project, will discuss the work of One People’s project work to expose and disrupt fascist groups. Founded in 2000, One People’s Project’s mission is to track down and expose right wing groups and individuals in an effort to diminish their ability to function. On June 5, the organization traveled to Phoenix, AZ to monitor a pro-SB 1070 rally. That particular rally was crippled by OPP after they exposed the white supremacist ties of the organizers, prompting a major anti-immigrant organization and sponsor to publicly distance themselves from not only the rally, but former Congressman Tom Tancredo who remained on as a speaker. Indeed several white supremacists were seen attending and speaking at the rally.
