NORTH-EAST WHITE PRIDE TO MEET THIS WEDNESDAY IN WORCESTER PUBLIC LIBRARY AT 6:30

No, this one didn’t fly past the radar. It’s a little hard for it to when the library POSTED IT IN THEIR EVENTS CALENDAR!!!! Yes, North East White Pride, seen here at a 2008 anti-immigration rally they organized,  is proving once again why we call them boneheads by announcing publicly that they are going to be meeting at the Worcester, MA Public Library for a “monthly meetup and networking session for members and prospective new members”. The best part about this is the fact that a Black Movie night will ALSO be happening at the library the same night! Today is a holiday, but call the library tomorrow. We are thinking they don’t know what NEWP stands for, and just might need a few phone calls and emails to let them know. The following is an excerpt of the message we received. We will keep you posted of any developments beyond this, and we provided a letter to use as well. So far the Facebook page that announced this has already been taken down. Now to finish off the whole damned thing. UPDATE 2/22/11: NEWP has been asked to postpone their meeting! According to this article in the Telegram (Worcester newspaper), they have been meeting there since November and no one knew about it! Good possibility that these clowns will be back too! We will keep you posted on all the events surrounding this. Mad props to everyone who expressed concern!

Nazis are meeting in the Worcester public library on Wednesday from 7-9pm in the saxe conference room. Come join us in trying to get the library to shut down the event. We are gathering in the library lobby at 6:30. Spread the word Library address:3 Salem Square, Worcester, MA

Everyone on this list should call the library, the WPD and the mayor tomorrow and ask them what the fuck they’re thinking. Also, there are probably a thousand local organizations that would be interested to know that there are Nazis meeting in their public library.
I am absolutely down to organize a response from Boston on this, anyone else, please get in touch with me. I’ll be starting by making a bunch of phone calls tomorrow, and going to Worcester Wednesday if I have to.

They’re closed today because it’s a national holiday, and their phone isn’t set up to take voicemails, but I sent an email to the facilities manager and already got a response that we should be emailing Head Librarian Mark Contois.

Here’s a letter you can send to the library.

Dear Head Librarian,

I am writing you out of concern for an event scheduled at your library on Wednesday Feb 23rd. I am a resident of MA, and value and fight for public libraries. The event conflicts with the values of public libraries, which should be safe spaces for community members to access information.

The North East White Pride meeting is scheduled to overlap with the Black Culture Movie Night!!! How will it be possible for the attendees of Black Culture Movie Night to feel safe as they celebrate our country’s multicultural legacy while a hate group is meeting nearby? Even on other evenings, the presence of this group will make the library a safe space only for a small fraction of the community who is on NEWP’s list of acceptable people who don’t need to be destroyed.

This is not an issue of free speech. This is an issue of enabling all members of the vibrant Worcester community to have equal access to the information available at the library. When a group is actively organizing inside the public library to literally erase the existence of other groups in the community (non-whites, Jews, gays etc), access to the library in unequal.

Please consider these points and decide promptly to permanently ban NEWP from use of the WPL.
