Take a look at this poster hyping an upcoming bout. See anything odd about it? When’s the last time you saw a fight being promoted where only ONE fighter is advertised? Now most of us are going to assume that Tyson Chartier is not going to fight himself, basically because he might not be too keen on slamming himself up against the cage he is supposed to be “stepping in”, so what’s up with the other fighter.? Well a lot. It’s neo-Nazi Doug Sonier, a guy who really doesn’t like it when we start talking about his fights because that means people start crying foul about some bonehead sullying an otherwise respectable sport. Look, we know he’s 0-11, and it would be nice to see him slapped around, but as we have said before, there is more to it than that. Boneheads have been trying to use MMA as some sort of boon for them since it became popular. Sonier was in a documentary with the Maryland “Skinheads” working out with them. And if he tries to tell you that all of that is in the past, the fact that his email address is [email protected] says otherwise (MDS, as in Maryland “Skinheads”, 14 as in the “14 Words”). We seriously have to ask promoters by the way, if you are this afraid of the heat Sonier would bring to an event, why the hell are you putting a nobody and lousy fighter like him on the card in the first place? UPDATE: It only took a few hours for Sonier to try and do damage control. He gave the following statement to thefightingtruth.com: “While it is true I have been offered a fight with Tyson There is no signed contract in place as of right now.If this fight does come to be it is not because I have called Tyson out as previously reported. In fact I dont even know who Tyson is or anything about him except that he has a decorated amature (sic) career and comes from a top camp.” Now, Sonier has been known to lie. A lot. So take this with a grain of salt. It doesn’t mean that he isn’t going to fight, and the fact remains that he was offered the fight. And that means by the way, that despite all the controversy surrounding Sonier, Premier went to HIM! The full fight card can be found here – complete with a thank you from the website to Premier for providing it!
One People’s Project
As a Mixed-Martial Arts fighter, Doug Sonier has had trouble securing tournaments to compete it. It is not because of his 0-11 record, but rather the fact that many have been opposed to giving him the opportunity to compete because of him being an associate with neo-Nazi organizations like the Maryland and Keystone State “Skinheads”, as well as a Florida based group called The Hated. But some promoters in Massachusetts reportedly keep giving him that opportunity to take on some of the best fighters in the region. Unfortunately, Sonier’s July 31st bout with Tyson Chartier as part of Premier Fighting Championship 6. is being promoted wide, and that has sparked some controversy.
Premier’s posters promoting the event lists Chartier, the 2010 Boston Herald Fighter of the Year, as “stepping into the cage July 31, 2011”, but doesn’t mention who he is fighting. An article in a blog for the Boston Herald does however, saying that “Chartier finished up a 7-1 amateur career last year and will take on a fighter who called him out in Doug Sonier.” Chartier reportedly was supposed to fight Mike Filippone (American Fight Team/Gladiator BJJ), but an injury prevented that card from taking place and Sonier, who claims erronously that his record is 6-3-1, challenged him.
But Premier has not been all that forthcoming about this change in the fight card. “We reached out to Premier, as well as Chartier to see who his opponent was, but got no answer,” an article on the website thefightingtruth.com read. “Nothing has been posted anywhere on their website. We stumbled upon an article online via Boston Herald, where the fight was announced.”
Six months ago, Sonier is reported to have completed a 12-month probation stemming from communicating threats to his former employer who fired him for stealing. According to court records, the employer, who was Jewish, said he was concerned about Sonier’s connections when he left a message on his answering machine that said, among other things, “I’ll knock your shylock mother f—iin’ nose off, kike b—h!” Sonier, a native of New Jersey has a criminal record dating back to 1999, which includes a prison stint for burglary. It is not known if he has any other form of employement, and he was recently seen at a Philadelphia Earn Center on Frankford Ave., a welfare-to-work program.
Anti-racist activists in the area have expressed concern that Sonier has been repeatedly been given fights there, but it is not known if any plans are being made to protest the event. Premier Fighting Championship 6 is slated to take place at the 350 Bar and Grille, 350 Worthington Street in Springfield, MA.
