NORTH EAST WHITE PRIDE MAY SOON RETURN TO WORCESTER PUBLIC LIBRARY

Library meetingExpect things to get a little louder in the New England area because North East White Pride will be coming back to the Worcester Public Library after a 90-day cooling off period ends in October. As expected, the library is not going to change their rules, citing First Amendment rights, and not maintain a ban against the group, despite the controversy of the past few months. The way we see it, if it is a public place they can’t, but here’s the fun part about public places: they can’t tell anyone else to stay out either. In other words it was not so much NEWP’s freedom of speech they were protecting. It was ours! So we expect people to gear up for the time NEWP tries to hold their meetings again. The meeting yesterday with the school board went as well as these things go, with NEWP member Russell James (pictured, wearing green shirt in center of photo) trying his best to bait those opposing him – like us (he tried to bring up the lawsuit that the white nationalist American Renissance says David Yeagley filed against DLJ over the AmRen conference cancellation; DLJ has not been served) – and trying to make it sound like they are these pillars of society, forgetting to leave out how their group is associated with some of the more violent hate groups in the area. So keep an eye on this situation because after the “cooling off” period, we think things are going to get heated.

WORCESTER, MA – On Tuesday, the Worcester Public Library board discussed their decision to allow the hate group North East White Pride to continue using their facility for meetings, despite the controversy that has dogged the library and the group over the past six months due to not only their presence but also to altercations and a video produced by NEWP announcing a July 16 meeting that seemed to challange those opposing them to a fight, that video ultimately banning the group from the library.

Two members of the community lobbied to prevent the group from meeting there, particularly while there is an investigation going on regarding the May 21 incident that involved members of NEWP clashing with antifa during their meeting. NEWP member Russell James attended the meeting while a few persons identified as NEWP associates reportedly waited downstairs. Local activist Gordon Brown has maintained that during the May 21 incident, James, who was seen in the controversial NEWP video yelling at a Hispanic woman to “Get the fuck out of my country and get out of it now!” denies that he threw a chair and that criminal charges were filed.

The library’s current policy is that the rooms are for noncommercial purposes and may be used by groups or individuals engaged in “educational, cultural, intellectual, civic or charitable activities.” The meetings must be open to the entire public, even if they are a group that is exclusive to whites, and admission fees normally cannot be charged.

According to the Worcester Telegram, the materials subcommittee voted last week to recommend no changes and subcommittee members said the existing library rules are sufficient, and said it was against the library’s mission to censor or prevent a diversity of opinion. The library however is maintaining a 90-day “cooling off” period imposed in July after which James said he will resume booking meetings at the library.

North East White Pride has been associated with violent racist groups, including the Connecticut White Wolves and its sister organization Batallion 14, who several years ago attacked a pride meeting in a New Haven, CT public library, and earlier this year saw a number of their members on trial and convicted for attempting to sell illegal weapons to a member of a Klan group. In August, NEWP member Rob O’Donovan posted on their website forum information about a leftist gathering in Boston on Aug. 30, saying “(A)ny hardcore National Socialist can’t afford to miss this one!! There might even be some antifa there.”  There were no incidents or anyone identified as a National Socialist present at the event.
