GILBERT, AZ—Although at press time it has not been confirmed by mainstream press, sources say that neo-Nazi J.T. Ready is the gunman who killed four people, including a toddler, before killing himself today.

According to the AZ Central website, the gunman was armed with several firearms during the shootings, which took place sometime after 1 pm MST in a residential area in the 500 block of West Tumbleweed Road, near Warner and Cooper roads. One person survived the shooting.

Jason T. Ready, 38 was a past president of the Mesa Community College Republican Club, then a Maricopa County Republican precinct committeeman before he eventually joined the anti-immigration Minuteman Defense Corps and started a nativist extremist organization called Americans First. He, however, found his greatest notoriety when he joined the National Socialist Movement (NSM). He made his positions clear when he spoke at a NSM rally in 2009, saying, “This is a white, European homeland. That’s how it should be preserved if we want to keep it clean, safe, and pure.”

According to the Southern Poverty Law Center, Ready has had several run-ins with the law. he was arrested in 1992 for damage to property and aggravated assault with a weapon, eventually accepting a plea bargain. While serving for the Marines in 1996 he was court-martialed twice, earning himself a bad conduct discharge after the second time. In 2007, Ready was pulled over for driving a vehicle with a fake license plate and was arrested and charged also for possessing a traffic preemption emitter an illegal device that can change traffic lights from red to green.

Former Arizona State Senator Russell Pearce came under fire for his associations with Ready, including ordaining him in the Church of Latter Day Saints priesthood. In 2011, Pearce became the first state legislator in Arizona history to be removed from office in a recall election.

Ready eventually left the NSM and started another organization called the Arizona Border Guard. He was an unwelcome presence at Occupy Phoenix in October 2011 when his group came armed with AR-15s purporting to defend the free speech rights of those participating in Occupy.

Details about today’s shooting are still developing, and it is not known at press time what might have prompted the killings.
