WASHINGTON, DC–A group described in one report as neo-Nazis that included members of the Towson White Student Union were routed by a group of May Day demonstrators when they attempted to confront them with a counter-demonstration.

According to reports, the hatemongers, holding Confederate and apartheid-era South Africa flags, attempted to confront the May Day protestors in Lafayette Park, just outside the White House. The skirmish escalated as flagpoles and balloons filled with urine were thrown, and one person was arrested. Among those in the melee was Matthew Heimbach of the White Student Union. “We were here to protest communism and to stand up for the blue collar working class. And then I got urine thrown on me,” he said.

In recent months Heimbach has generated regular media attention from various public stunts, including announcing patrols to prevent crime on the Towson University campus despite a low crime rate there. Although he has claimed to go on these patrols, they have not been evident save for a news story where a reporter went on a supposed outing. Towson University, who once recognized his chapter of the white supremacist Youth for Western Civilization, does not recognize his White Student Union.

Heimbach is no stranger to violence. It was almost one month ago when he and WSU Member Scott Terry attended the American Renaissance conference near Nashville, Tennessee and challenged some counter demonstrators there to a rumble. Later that evening, he reportedly instigated a bar fight with local antifa.

“Maryland League of the South Vice Chairman Shane Long fought heroically until he was dragged to the ground by Leftists, as myself, Scott Terry, and other male members fought to defend our fallen comrade,” Heimbach wrote on the WSU blog about the May Day skirmish. “Myself and Mr. Terry recovered the battle flag as hordes of policemen broke up the melee. Mr. Long suffered bruised ribs and the rest of us suffered scrapes and scratches from battling off the Reds.”

The May Day skirmish was one of several in Washington, DC regarding the protests. Seattle, Washington also saw battles between police and protestors, resulting in arrests
