OVERLAND PARK, KS – One day before Passover, three weeks after British Holocaust denier David Irving held a speaking engagement at a local Hampton Inn, and five months after the National Socialist Movement held a rally in nearby Kansas City, three people are dead after a shooter, who reportedly shouted “Heil Hitler” as he was taken into custody, opened fire on a Jewish community center and a Jewish retirement home in the Overland Park secton.

According to news reports, the first shooting was reported about 1 p.m. Sunday at the Jewish Community Center of Greater Kansas City. 75 people were inside the Lewis and Shirley White Theatre, most of them children auditioning for a role in a production of “To Kill a Mockingbird”. The suspect, 74, then went to the Village Shalom and there he asked people if they were Jewish and then shot them, The Community Center and Village Shalom are a mile apart.

At a press conference, police said the suspect, who they did not identify pending investigation, was not from the area, and did not appear to know his victims.

The shooting comes in the midst of some recent high profile appearences in the Kansas City area of neo-Nazis. The first was on Nov. 9, when the National Socialist Movement held a rally in the downtown area, and the second was a March 25 speaking engagement by Holocaust denier David Irving, which was disrupted by video camera-wielding antifa, and are currently engaged in a campaign against the Hampton Inn at the Plaza in Kansas City after they allowed the event and was hostile to those that call to oppose Irving.
