Tyler Cole, the ex-con neo-Nazi who formed what would eventually become the American Freedom Party (AFP), died April 17, according to a post on the AFP website.

No cause of death has been given.

A former member of the National Alliance, Cole, 32, was a two-time convicted felon, convicted of assault with a deadly weapon in Arizona in 2001, serving five years, and convicted for possession of an illegal machete, possession of marijuana and resisting arrest in Orange County, California, in 2008 where he served two months. In May 2009, he was living in Mission Viejo, CA when he, using pseudonyms such as “Eugene Cameron” and “Tim Robbins”, and a group he was affiliated with called Freedom 14 started the Golden State Party, They called themselves “a political protest-party” whose goal was “to win political representation for European-Americans.”

Four months after they started however, things fell apart when a newspaper article exposed Cole’s criminal past, and he was removed as chairman of the party. In January 2010 the Golden State Party was renamed American Third Position and it’s new chairman was attorney William D. Johnson. In 2013, the organization changed it’s name to the American Freedom Party.

Cole remained with the party, and was an participant in several rallies and events, most notably under the banner of AFP’s Free America Rally (FAR). He moved to St. Helens, Oregon in June 2012, four months after he participated in a FAR rally in Sacramento where they were met by Occupy participants and two police officers were injured. He started a FAR chapter once arriving in the Portland area as well as another group called Free Oregon, and represented AFP at gun shows and conferences, particularly the American Renaissance conference in 2013.

Under the screen name “TribalThinking” on Stormfront, Cole expressed his admiration for Hitler often calling him a “visionary” and a “student of truth” in some posts. “Hitler was a true thinker, and he tended to be frank about what was on his mind, he wrote in 2009. “That is what separates him from modern politicians of any type. He was a true statesman. He molded opinion, as opposed to the other way around.” His last post was on July 21, 2014.

Tyler’s wife Laura, who has also participated in AFP outings and according to a post last year from Rose City Antifa worked as a marriage and family therapist at Columbia Community Mental Health in St. Helens.
