The National Alliance member that according to his supporters drove up to a black man, got out of his car, pepper sprayed him in the neck, got back in his car and sped off in self-defense…yeah mull that one over for a minute…is now sitting in jail in lieu of a $10,000 bond. Originally, Michael Carothers (aka Michael Weaver) wasn’t granted a bond, mostly because of his noteriety in his local area of Columbus, GA where the incident took place in December. On Tuesday, the judge went ahead and granted the request and that has his loving girlfriend – one of them anyway – scrambling to find $10K. So Mike will be out soon – for now – but he is REALLY going to have to explain how all of this is self-defense. Warning: if it makes sense to Billy Roper<\/a>, it makes no sense at all.<\/p>\n

A white man prosecutors say leaves racist literature on downtown Columbus cars was granted Tuesday a $10,000 bond on accusations he used pepper spray on a black man last December.<\/p>\n

Michael Carothers, also known as Michael David Weaver, faces an aggravated assault charge in connection with the Dec. 4 incident on Rose Hill Street, his indictment states. He\u2019s remained in jail without bond since his Aug. 23 arrest.<\/p>\n

On Tuesday, Judge Bobby Peters granted Carothers\u2019 request for bond, though he ordered that he must have no contact with the man he allegedly pepper sprayed or his family.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s looking like it will be a trial,\u201d said Assistant District Attorney Michael Craig.<\/p>\n

Carothers initially faced a misdemeanor simple battery charge for allegedly spraying a 26-year-old man on the neck with pepper spray. However, Senior Assistant District Attorney Don Kelly said his office took the case from State Court prosecutors after examining the accusations.<\/p>\n

Police say the man was walking on Rose Hill Street around 6 p.m. Dec. 4, a Saturday, when Carothers slowly pulled up along side him in a car.<\/p>\n

The man then got on the sidewalk and kept walking.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s when Carothers stopped his car, got out and sprayed pepper spray on the man\u2019s neck. Carothers then returned to his car and drove away, reports state.<\/p>\n

Carothers was arrested about an hour later, though he later made bond on the misdemeanor charge. He was arrested again when a grand jury indicted him.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou\u2019ve got a right to ask for a bond at any time,\u201d said Columbus Public Defender Robert Wadkins, adding he didn\u2019t know whether Carothers could make his $10,000 bond.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
