One People’s Project<\/h2>\n

PHILADELPHIA, PA \u2013 For the sixth consecutive year, a local group of neo-Nazis attempted to gather at the statue of Viking explorer Thorafinn Karsefini on Boathouse Row to celebrate what they have called the \u201cLeif Ericson Day Celebration\u201d, but in what has become a traditional event, antifa were there once again this year to oppose them.<\/p>\n

About 20 members and associates of Keystone State \u201cSkinheads\u201d (KSS, a\/k\/a Keystone United), who organized the event led by member AJ Olsen<\/a>, marched from nearby Fairmount Park, and down Kelly Drive where the statue is located, only to be met by 15 antifascist activists, commonly known as antifa, who were waiting for them at the statue. After nearly a half-hour of shouting back and forth, the neo-Nazis went back into the park followed by antifa who waited until they actually left the park before leaving themselves. The Nazis then went to an undetermined location for an afterparty where others who did not want to participate in the Boathouse Row rally waited, among them Luzerne County Republican Committeman and KSS founding member Steve Smith<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey went on to make unintelligible speeches on a megaphone about the plight of \u2018White Europeans,\u2019\u201d a story on the Philly Antifa blog <\/a>read. \u201cWell, they might have been more intelligible if Antifacists weren\u2019t shouting them down with chants of ,THIS IS OUR COMMUNITY \u2013 NAZIS OUT\u2019 and \u2018DEATH, DEATH, DEATH TO THE NAZIS \u2013 POWER, POWER, POWER TO THE PEOPLE\u2019 as well as general heckling and insults. It wasn\u2019t long before they had clearly had enough and packed up their side show and headed back to their cars under police protection.\u201d<\/p>\n

One of the neo-Nazi supporters, Heidi McCarty of Williamsport, PA wore a T-Shirt reading \u201cDon\u2019t Shoot, Officer. I\u2019m White!\u201d She came with her fianc\u00e9e Patrick Rogers and friend Elizabeth McGill.<\/p>\n

For the first time the Florida-based white power crew the Hated were openly represented by two members, Michael and Laura Leager of East Lansdowne, PA. Representatives from the white supremacist political party American Third Position, who\u2019s website says that it \u201cexists to represent the political interests of White Americans,\u201d also were in attendance. Two years ago they were the sponsors of the event after KSS fell apart. Ever since that year their numbers have been minuscule. This was only the second public outing for KSS this year, the first one being the concert in Lebanon, PA last month featuring bands that once featured Wade Page the Hammerskin Nation member that killed six worshippers in Wisconsin In August.<\/p>\n

KSS and their supporters vowed at the rally to have another Leif Ericson Day event next year. Upon saying at the end of this year\u2019s event that they will return, antifa chanted, \u201cSo will we!\u201d<\/p>\n
