A lot of us said the shooting death of Trayvon Martin was the last straw when it comes to gun-happy scumbags killing our children in the name of “justice” and “law enforcement”. Then this case happened. Jet Magazine’s cover makes it clear just how pissed off we are all about this latest attempt to use the Stand Your Ground law as a shield against cold-blooded murder. Of course, some folks are trying to say THEY went too far with their message – as opposed to the racist scumbag who shot Jordan Davis saying his radio was too loud.<\/h3>\n

JET Magazine has a long history as Black America\u2019s news magazine. It\u2019s a tradition they take seriously under new editor-in-chief Mitzi Miller<\/strong>. In a sad postscript to 2012, Jet\u2019s first cover story of 2013 is about 17-year-old Jordan Davis<\/strong><\/a>, the latest victim of Florida\u2019s notorious \u201cStand Your Ground\u201d law<\/strong>.  \u201cStanding Our Ground\u201d written by acclaimed journalist Denene Millner (the author of 21 books including the bestseller \u201cAct Like a Lady, Think Like a Man\u201d with Steve Harvey) the story exposes yet another murder of  a young Black male just months after Trayvon Martin<\/strong><\/a> was also killed in Florida.<\/p>\n

The Friday after Thanksgiving, commonly known as \u201cBlack Friday\u201d for its post-holiday sales, proved to be a tragic one for the Davis family. On that day Jordan and his friends went to a Jacksonville gas station to fill up after leaving a local mall. They encounteredMichael Dunn<\/strong>, a 46-year-old Florida gun collector with a permit to carry a concealed weapon. A confrontation took place over the volume of the music playing in the car Davis and his friends were in. Dunn, later saying he felt \u201cthreatened\u201d and thought the teens were \u201cgang members\u201d, shot into the car, wounding and killing Davis.<\/p>\n

In the article, his parents, Ron Davis and Lucia McBath express both their grief and their commitment to justice not just for their son, but for anyone who might have to go through a similar injustice. Like Trayvon Martin\u2019s parents, Jordan\u2019s parents are trying to spread the word about the inequalities of the \u201cStand Your Ground\u201d law and use their son\u2019s death for a higher purpose.<\/p>\n

\u201cI will be out there stomping all over the nation, fighting for my son,\u201d Davis says in the article. \u201cWe need to change these laws to back \u2018when you shoot somebody, you\u2019re going to be held accountable.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
