Last year, I wrote about Fox’s small – and shrinking – African American audience<\/a>. It appears that the trend continues.<\/p>\n

Although it’s not exactly an apples-to-apples comparison from last year,<\/a> this year’s data, via Mediaite’s Tommy Christopher,<\/a> shows that while Fox News continues to lead in the overall ratings, it’s dead last when it comes to black viewers. For example, Christopher reports, via Nielsen:<\/p>\n

MSNBC led with 64,960 weekday prime black viewers in the key demo, followed by CNN with 45,080; HLN with 25,560; and Fox News with 5,940. Despite Fox’s much larger audience, MSNBC’s black audience is 1,093 percent greater than Fox’s.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Given Fox News’ relentless<\/a> hostility<\/a> to<\/a> African<\/a> Americans,<\/a> it’s no surprise that they would avoid the “fair and balanced” network like the plague. But here’s  a tidbit that might give Fox News pause: according to a Pew News Interest index, via Christopher, blacks are highly engaged news consumers:<\/p>\n

It’s difficult to measure this comprehensively, because Pew doesn\u2019t normally break out its news interest crosstabs by race, unless there\u2019s a black-skewing story, or three, in the news. However, in a June study, black people showed more interest than whites in every story in the survey, with the exception of the Supreme Court\u2019s marriage equality rulings, where interest was equal. In 2013, black people made up about 19% of the primetime cable news audience in the 25-54 year-old demo, about 150% of their representation in the U.S. population.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

 But, presumably, Fox knows its audience and I suspect the network also knows that they share <\/a>the<\/a> same<\/a> views.<\/a><\/p>\n
