Phillips, who had been hospitalized for weeks after the incident, came in assisted by others. He walked with a cane and his head and face were adorned with tattoos such as the Othala rune on his neck, a life rune just underneath his left eye, and the number 88 on his left earlobe. A supporter for Casiano was also in the courtroom. She had an Othala rune tattoo on her hands.

Casiano and Masten, who remain incarcerated, did not appear in court themselves.
